I love Bali, it’s beautiful, warm, humid, the people are nice, the traffic is… traffic. I do really enjoy the traffic though. I like sitting in the front (which I’ve only gotten to do once) and watching the scooters weave through the cars. One wrong move and there would be a ten car, fifty scooter pile up.

On another happy note, I split my toenail in half, all the way down to the bed. I just stubbed my pinkie toe on a chair and it hurt, but then I looked down and Oh! Blood! Fun. It wasn’t fun, it wasn’t fun at all. Terrell offered to glue it back together with super glue, but we looked at it and googled the chemical compound. We’re really glad we didn’t put it on my nail because it said it was especially bad for nails split down the middle, which was oddly specific due to my situation.

My favorite thing we’ve done this week was the firefly expedition. We were driven up over an hour through the mountains to a little farm where we were served dinner (it was bomb) and given a tour of the farm. We then drove a little to our tour guides compound and she gave us a tour of it, as well as an explanation of Balinese naming systems. Did you know that the babies get a ceremony every month for a year and a half after they’re born?

For the actual firefly part, we went to a rice paddy and watched them glow, the tiny moving stars definitely surprised me at first, but I quickly got used to it. The tour guide and one of the drivers were catching them and handing them to the kids to hold, they caught a bunch in a bottle and it looked straight out of my Disney dreams. I got a stunned one and set him on a flower in the rice paddy, I took the most gorgeous picture because of it. The tour guide asked me to send it to her. (I had mom email it to her)

I’m going to miss my bed here, but I think I might miss my beds in all my rooms. Maybe not the ones I have to share with Roland. I’m excited to go to Vietnam though, the pool there is much cleaner looking than the one here, so hopefully nobody will get swimmer’s ear. Roland, Wren, and Jack all had swimmer’s ear from our pool. Nora and Jack have both been sick, so going out to do stuff has been tough, and we’ve had to cancel a few things.
