Steamrolled by an Elephant (Almost)

Thailand was pretty cool, the temples were gorgeous, but I don’t think it was as amazing as some of the other places we’ve been.

Our house was huge and the people who cleaned it were super sweet. Even though we weren’t there for Christmas, we were there very close to Christmas- (End of November-Beginning of December) and when they heard we were American they set up a Christmas tree for us. There was one single bike so we took turns piling onto it.

We went to two elephant conservation centers. The first one was smaller and shorter, but I really liked it. There was a little baby that we got to feed. We got to crush up food into medicine balls for them using a variety of fruits and herbs to help with their digestion.

The second one was out farther and up in the mountains, but it was still pretty cool. We got to go on a hike with the elephants down to a little river part and bathe the elephants. It made me nervous being in the water with them because they’re SO heavy and I really didn’t want to be steamrolled.

We went to quite a few temples, but the most memorable (and busy!) were the white and blue ones in Chang Rai! They were so intricate and incredibly beautiful! The white one had a bunch of pop culture characters painted on the inside…which was weird. They were there to represent the worshipping of false idols.

I also LOVED the sticky waterfall, we hiked down to the bottom and walked our way up the waterfall! It honestly didn’t feel much like water, except for the fact that I was getting wet. The bottom of the waterfall is covered almost entirely in limestone mineral deposits which makes it not slippery at all, despite it being a literal waterfall.

Roland and Wren had to go home after Thailand. Their mom and her friend came to Thailand to pick them up. We went on a couple adventures with them as well. My favorite was probably the night market. We got rolled ice cream and munchies in the food part and explored a lot of the rest.

The one thing I didn’t really like was how much like America it was. It was still very fun and absolutely gorgeous, but it wasn’t my favorite. But maybe we’ll go back to Thailand and my opinion will change, who knows?
